3 thoughts about 2018 and 3 goals for 2019

With 2018 coming to an end I wanted to share some thoughts on this year and goals for next year. It’s hard to summarize a full year and think about where this business is headed, but I’m going to try!

Three thoughts on 2018:

  1. I had the privilege of capturing important memories and moments for so many families in the Richmond area! This sounds like a given, but I never want to take for granted that I get to do this.
  2. I really found my passion in photographing families, babies, bumps and children. I did a few events and some other things I never shared about on social media or here. While those events were great, I realized they just weren’t what I really want to focus on. When I photograph a family or newborn it makes me so excited! I want to continue to put my time and energy towards this, which means saying no sometimes. It’s hard to turn away work, but I’ve learned this year I have to be the right fit and it has to be something I am truly excited about! This will ensure I don’t get burnt out and can serve my clients that I do take on even better!
  3. This business has really become a blessing for my family. As a stay at home mom being able to contribute financially has been such a gift! I’ll always be thankful for a job that gives me such flexibility with the kids and allows me to do something I love as well.

With 2018 being such a good year I am so excited for 2019! I have some goals I wanted to share here as well. Three things I want to see happen in 2019!

  1. Complete Katelyn Jame’s lighting and location course. I had been waiting for this to go on sale and when it did on Black Friday I finally bought it. I have looked over the course and I’m so excited to dive in and learn more about perfecting my craft. It’s a lot, but I can’t wait!
  2. Start an email list. This has been on my mind for some time, and I am finally going to do it. It will be a better way to share about mini sessions and specials. My posts can get lost on Facebook and Instagram due to the algorithm, so this will help communicate better with my clients.
  3. Streamline my work flow. I’ve started being more intentional this year with deposits and email communication to make sure everything is accounted for which each client. As my business has grown I see why this is so important and why so many other photographers talk about this all the time! Especially in the busy fall season, I hope to keep my process for handling inquires to gallery delivery the same for each client I work with!

I could go on and on with dreams, goals and thankful thoughts for this business of mine! I’ll always feel so lucky to do this as a profession. If you were one of my 2018 families thank you for trusting me with such special memories! If you are one of my 2019 families, I can’t wait to capture your milestones and important moments!
